The funny thing about this cross is that counter to popular belief it is actually a symbol of deep submission to jesus. Why?  Well when St. Peter was to be crucified he requested to be hung upside down in a sign of  the fact that he wasn’t worthy of dying in a similar manner to Jesus. The symbol has since become deeply associated with the feel of being unworthy before God and of the sacrifice of Christ.
